My family went to Oklahoma City so I could compete in singing and playing the alto sax in the First Free Will Baptist Association National Convention. I went with 12 other kids to compete. We rode a chartered bus all the way from Albany, GA to Oklahoma City, OK. Out of 30 kids from 5th and 6th Grade for singing, I got 3rd place. Out of 15 kids in 5th and 6th grade in woodwinds I got 2nd place.
We also went to the Oklahoma City Memorial. This memorial was to remember the lives lost in the bombing of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City. More lives were lost from this domestic attack than in the battle on Hiroshima. One of the toughest survivors was a huge tree that is now called the Survivor Tree. This tree withstood 10,000 lbs of thrust from the explosion. There is a seat for every victim of the attack. Every seat has a solar powered light so that at the darkest time of night, these lights are there brightest. This is to show that no matter how intense the attack, America will stand strong.
